Abstract

Technological innovations vive incessantly, to provide pragmatic and innovative solutions to
routine problems. At times conventional methods with modern adaptations prove to be effective and efficient
solutions in a realistic manner. In a low resource setting, simple low-energy technologies are likely to succeed.
One such technology available for water purification is the solar still. Solar stills use sunlight, to kill or
inactivate many, if not all, of the pathogens found in water. This paper attempts to consider the prominent
variants of solar stills available and compare the operational and functional parameters. An attempt has been
made to provide an integrated comparative assessment so as to identify the optimal performance indicators
 in deciding the technology adaptation.
