Abstract

Adaptive learning technologies, built on the foundations of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and assistive innovations, are transforming the landscape of education by enabling highly individualized and accessible learning experiences. These systems are particularly valuable for students with disabilities, as they draw upon principles of personalized instruction to tailor educational content, pace, and support to each learner’s needs, preferences, and progression. By continuously analyzing large volumes of learner data—including assessment outcomes, behavioral patterns, and interaction histories—adaptive learning platforms can deliver timely micro-interventions, targeted resources, and adaptive feedback that optimize engagement and outcomes. Despite their transformative potential, the integration of such technologies also raises complex ethical challenges. Key concerns include data privacy, algorithmic bias, and equitable access, as the reliance on massive datasets increases the risk of misuse or unauthorized access to sensitive learner information.
