A retaining wall is one of the primary types of retaining structures and is widely used in various applications such as highway engineering, railway engineering, bridge construction, and irrigation system design. This project aims to establish a relationship between different parameters of a retaining wall using ANSYS. The bending moments in the toe and heel of a retaining wall are comparatively lower, resulting in a reduced requirement for steel reinforcement in these areas. A retaining wall with a relieving platform is more economical. The addition of a platform significantly increases stability against sliding. Moreover, the factor of safety against sliding and overturning is nearly doubled. Overall, a retaining wall with a relieving platform offers much greater security against both overturning and sliding.
