Abstract

Background- One of the most common long bone fractures in humans is a tibial fracture. Trauma of both low and high energy causes most tibial fractures. Intramedullary nailing (IMN) is a common surgical technique used to repair tibial fractures.

Need for the study- According to the Gustilo-Anderson (GA) classification, the preferred treatment for closed diaphyseal fractures, certain tibial metaphyseal fractures, as well as open tibial diaphyseal fractures categorised as grade I and II is now locked nailing. An other method of nail insertion in semi-extension of the lower leg that is simpler to reduce—specifically, multiple fractures as well as proximal fractures of the diaphyseal of the tibia—is the suprapatellar (SP) approach.

Aim of the study- To assess the functional outcome of suprapatellar nailing in proximal third tibia fracture.

Materials and method- The 40 patients reporting to the Emergency Department & OPD of the Department of Orthopaedics during the time duration of 2 years, fulfilling the selection criteria will be part of the research. The patients presenting with the proximal tibia fracture will be selected using the simple random technique (envelope method) in this interventional prospective study. The patients will be evaluated on the basic of functional & clinical outcomes post-surgery using different scales which will be based on the daily activities that the study subjects perform regularly. The data obtained will undergo statistical analysis using the SPSS software (version 23)
