Abstract

The 24 Solar Terms, a key element of China’s intangible cultural heritage, reflect traditional knowledge of solar movement and seasonal change. This study investigates how the cultural symbols of the 24 Solar Terms can be visually translated to promote heritage in the new media context. Based on six months of data collection and analysis at multiple universities in Shanghai, the research examines user understanding, symbol usage, and visual preferences. Key findings include: (1) challenges in translating cultural symbols; (2) effective methods for symbol translation; and (3) a proposed model for visual transformation. This study offers an initial framework for applying cultural symbol translation in creative design, providing practical insights for the communication of intangible cultural heritage.
