Abstract

The global movement towards the attainment of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals can hardly be achieved without the intervention of higher education institutions (HEIs). Universities can only integrate sustainability into their core missions when leadership and governance support the development of policies, strategies, and culture to this effect. This paper investigates how HEIs can be transformed into engines of sustainable development by effective leadership and robust governance frameworks. It is found that institutions with their operations, teaching and research in line with SDGs are more impactful and engaged with global society. Through this research 6. Educational leadership discourse is proposed with a governance model that ensures institutional sustainability and global responsibility.
