Abstract

The present paper is an attempt to emphasize the role of space resources in achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs), in the light of Space4SDG programme. The paper shall also outline the orbital debris problem as a threat to the sustainability of space for further exploration and use. It shall further analyze the wider framework of the International Space Law and whether there exist certain principles or provisions that would help in the mitigation of orbital debris. Finally, the paper would provide some suggestions and way forward in addressing the issues relating to orbital debris and ensuring environmental sustainability in outer space.
