Abstract

For long in India, the Position of women has been a matter of concern. Be it in education, health, safety, or other aspects of her life, women have been subject to untold discrimination down the ages. The status of women has improved through the instrumentality of law as the gender inequalities have been sought to be addressed. The dynamic role played by the Indian judiciary in ensuring that women’s rights are recognized and realized warrants mention.

In this Article, the researcher has dealt with the changing position of women from earlier days till date. In this Article, the researcher has discussed the position of women beginning from early society in Part I of the Article. Part II deals with the various laws and other beneficial schemes of the State for the benefit of women. In Part III, the laws have been critically analyzed to ascertain if they have helped women to improve their status.  In Part IV, the researcher has concluded the Article, mentioning the conditions of women and the conditions of women now, and mentioning the laws enacted to improve the conditions of women, with the hope that the empowerment of women would minimize the existing gender gap and the problem of gender inequality.
