Abstract

The study focused on analyzing the narrative structure of the Prodigal Son parable in English language learning classroom to enhance the reading skills of tertiary level students. English Language Teaching through literature started to view as an authentic way of instruction in Second Language Learning. In this study learners were taught to comprehend the text by understanding the narrative structure of the parable. The instrument used in collecting the data was multiple choice text, composition test, and role play. Pre and post-test were administered to evaluate the result. The study provided insight for ELT practitioners to use parables in language teaching.
